Tutorial, Lee's Calender : September

I am Lee Chia Hao, you can call me yoga, the member of Dreams. Now, i will show you how i finish my calender, September.

The theme of month September is 'Punk', so my calender will involve a lot punk style, a little rock, brownish color.


Words Design
Firstly, what i need to do is design the words. I decide to use a little dirty style of font to represent the theme 'Punk'. For a better quality, i use Adobe Illustrator to design the words. The words i need to design is 'Punk', '9September', and 'Lounder Pls'.
Step 1: I choose 'trashed' and 'undecapped vihyl' font to design the words.

 

Step 2: Design the words, arrange the words in a messy but readable style.

Step 3: transfer the words to Adobe Photoshop by drag it.

Step 4: Ctrl+G to group them and name as 'words'

Background Design
To be coordinate with the theme 'Punk', i decide to used a brownish color of background.Name the file 9.
Step 1: Duplicate the background into 2, then use the brush tool paint the background randomly.(sorry i forget the brush name but u can found a lot of free brush with google ^ ^)

Step 2: Name it as background

Step 3: Use brush tool to add some graffiti on next background, i name it as 'graffitis'.(you can found some graffiti brush on here http://www.brushesdownload.com/graffitis.asp )

Step 4: Adjust the transparency to 'overlay' to give a nice effect.

Step 5: Final background

 Logo
Now is the time to design punk logo. I decide to design with illustrator.

Step 1: Use ellipse tool, shift+drag to crate a nice circle.

Step 2: Use line segment tool to make a A shape

Step 3: Go open brush library> Artistic> Artistic Paintbrush . Apply Dry Brush 2 to the shape.

Step 4: Duplicate a new image with Alt+Drag .Choose Dry Brush 5 this time and adjust stroke to 2 pt then overlap together to form a nice punk logo.

Step 5: Change the color into red.
Final punk logo:

Step 6: transfer the logo to Photoshop and name the layer as Punk Logo

Background Picture
To add effect like it cut from a magazine and then we glue it, just like scrapbooks, i need a lot of background picture. So, just google it!! This step is extreme easy!!
Step 1: Open the picture with photoshop and start edit.

Step 2: Erase the white part with eraser tool but left a little bit blank to let it look like it is being hand cut from magazine.

Step 3: Safe as psd file and then import to file 9. Place the image nicely at the left side of the artwork.
Name the layer as CD.

Step 4: repeat step 1 to step 3 with using other picture. Arrange them to form a nice composition. Name the layers then group them and name the group as background picture.

Model
A fashion cannot without a model. So i choose a punk style wearing model. Just crop it and place it at the left site of the artwork.
Step 1: Select the model with quick selection tool.

Step 2: Right click and select select Inverse. Then layer via cut and delete the un-use layer.

Step 3: Use paint bucket tool to paint the white background into dark blue color. Then use background eraser tool to erase to background, make the cropping become more smooth.

 Step 4: After finish cropping, transfer to file 9 and place at the left side of the art work. Then name it as model.

CalenderCreate a calender with adobe illustrator.
Step 1: Arrange the number as the 2011 September calender. Then transfer to file 9. Put at the right side of the art work. name it as calender.

Step 2: Create boxes in illustrator. Transfer to photoshop and place behind the calender, change the transparency to exclusion. Name the layer as Boxes
